28th Come Dancing Cup

Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers International (HKBDI) ranking event, 28th Come Dancing Cup (28thCDC) DamceSports Championships eventually  changed from Hotel Regal Riverside, Shatin to TsimShaTsui Welfare Kaifong Welfare Association (TSTKWA) on 22/8/21. The number of Solo dancers was 175 in 51 Events and there were 60 couples in 35 Events.  As Hong Kong Dance Sports Association (sponsored by HKSAR Government) held their competition on the same day, the turnout of competitors at TSTKWA was commendable.

28th CDC Basic Step Violations : Same as 519 & 627, the appointed HKBDI Basic Scrutineer recorded the violations to me, I  then made the decisions to disqualify either (i) from going into the next round in the 1st round, or (ii) to the last placing in Finals. More than 10 J & J Solo dancers were disqualified and the situation did not improve compared to 519 and 627.

28th CDC new Measure: The MC saw that time was tight near the end of the Solo Events.  He suggested to me that the J & J dancers did not need to go back to the recall area, just to wait at the dance floor for the results to immediately dance the next round. Those failed to get through then leave the floor. I agreed. Unfortunately the recall staff was a little abrupt in manner during the announcements & made the J & J dancers embarrassed!  I had apologized to the children and their teacher and promised to improve this new measure next time.

28th CDC new Award : I had always been blamed to be too reserved & did not know how to express my gratitude to my students and fellow teachers who had helped HKBDI along the way. Finally, I figured out the "HKBDI Outstanding Service in 10-Year Contributions Award" and "Support HKBDI Appreciations Award" and presented them at the platform of 28th CDC.

The withdrawal of Italian top Professional Standard couple Marco Camarlinghi & Martina Minasi from the competition, made the competition less sparkling. Fortunately, the long-awaited Latin Pro-Am 5‧Dance event was successfully in action. Three couples of Latin teachers and students all played out of their heart.  The audience kept cheering for them.  The last two high-quality Events - Open Amateur Standard and Open Amateur Latin, brought a perfect end to 28th CDC.
