Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers International (HKBDI) organized 1st Handover Cup on 14/10/12. 3rd Handover Cup had been fixed on 2nd October 2014 following the conclusion of 2nd Handover Cup on 14/10/13. Unexpectedly on 19th Feb 14, I was informed that this year’s Handover Cup had to be compliance with the theme of Handover to China & near the date of 1st July . Meanwhile, Leisure & Cultural Services Department could only provide the date of 15th June among June & July 14 to Handover Cup. I had no choice but to issue Notice of Changing Date, amend dates of Invitation Letters to related parties, re-schedule our advertisement strategies！
The setback of this new date - 15th June 14 :
- 50 Anniversary Joint Performance of HK Federation of Trade Union (HKFTU) Workers Club at Shatin City Hall. My wife Gertrude who had established strong link with HKFTU had been asked to send a performing team for this event long time ago. Gertrude needed to supervise the rehearsal of her students in the afternoon to prepare for the evening show. It was the first time for me to organize competition without my wife at scene ;
- Primary & Secondary school examination periods restrained many Hong Kong talented juvenile & junior competitors from dancing in this once a year of DanceSport Competition held in HK Park Sports Centre. At least 40 young couples & 80 Solo dancers more would have entered under conservative estimations ;
- Father’s Day also discouraged some couples to join ;
- Three of HKBDI Committee members who are active competitors could not join due to their pre-planned traveling at this time after Blackpool Dance Festival.
Bringing couples & fans to Blackpool had become my annual vacation. Due to approaching date of this year ‘s Handover Cup, for the first time in my life, I brought my Laptop (new one) to work on the entries of Handover Cup in Blackpool！
There are always Good on the other side of Bad – there was no clash of other local competitions in Hong Kong！
