19/2/12
第一屆HKBDFI盃1st HKBDFI Cup
HKBDI organized 1st HKBDFI Cup

I had longed to set up an association which truly belonged to competitors and teachers, in such a space where they could ask, think & express what they deserved, and the most important of all, have Freedom to Dance.

Undergoing different twists and turns, I was fortunate enough to cause the set-up of the Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers International (HKBDI) on 14/2/11 under the influence of Ballroom Dancers' Federation International (BDFI), to promote the spirit of good fellowship and sportsmanship.

On 19/2/2012, HKBDI organized her inaugural championships, namely 1st HKBDFI Cup, as endorsed by BDFI. This 1st HKBDI Ranking Event in 2012 saw 85 Solo competitors and 120 couples from Singapore, Philippines, China & Hong Kong competing in 45 events. Both quantity & quality for this brand new event in Hong Kong were beyond my expectations. The turnout & talents of the Juvenile events were, whether in Solo or couples were most appealing & refreshing. The future of Hong Kong DanceSport was most promising!

The most spectacular event of the day was no doubt the Open Amateur Latin Final. The two most talented couples from Hong Kong - one just came back from UK Championships having achieved 17 place in Amateur Rising Star Latin ; one was Asian Game DanceSport Bronze Medal owner, competing against the very mature and sophisticated couple from Philippines. The audience was submerged with the sparkling and prowess for great showmanship of these three couples. I was so proud of these two Hong Kong couples !

The last event of the day, Open Professional Standard had attracted 9 couples take to the floor. Two young exuberant Professional Standard couples from Hong Kong took the first two spots. The very experienced couple from Philippines had to content with the 3rd Place.

I had had the dream of inviting one or two Directors from BDFI to come to Hong Kong to adjudicate for this very meaningful event. Maybe this dream will come at 2nd HKBDFI Cup!
