1/9/19 Report of 27th Come Dancing Cup HK Open DanceSport Championships
27th Come Dancing Cup HK Open DanceSport Championships (CDC) carried on as Freedom to Dance International HK, it was also registered with Champion Tours.
1st September 2019, the selected date of 27th CDC could be regarded as “Unlucky” & “Lucky” !
Unluckily – the unrest in Hong Kong grew unprecedentedly from June to September, many overseas adjudicators and competitors had cancelled their trips to this year’s Come Dancing Cup
Luckily – the day before different areas were blocked but airport to official hotel route was OK, so all overseas guests arrived safely
Statistically, 4 overseas adjudicators, 20 odd overseas couples & 40 odd guests failed to come, which was the minimal loss the organizers Lawrence & Gertrude could expect.
Lawrence & Gertrude had to take this opportunity to thank 11 overseas adjudicators, 25 local adjudicators, 112 couples, 92 Solo dancers (from China, England, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Bulgaria, Russia, Taiwan) who cordially attended.
As a Tradition, CDC always introduced new elements, 27th CDC had the following “First time of its kind in HK” :
(i) The inaugural Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers International (HKBDI) Top Teacher Award was presented. Award recipients from 1st to 6th were presented with prize, trophies & certificates ; (ii) 1st HKBDI Junior & Juvenile All Year Round Ranking competitions started for 2019 - 2020 to find out the Solo & Couple champions in different age groups ; (iii) Pro-Am events were awarded with prize money.
Pro-Am show became the main source of income for most organizers. Lawrence was contented that 27th CDC attracted six Pro-Am shows, among them two were performed by his student Jennifer & himself. Jennifer specifically thanked Laura Zmajkovicova for making both choreography.
