17/3/19 Report of 8th HKBDFI Cup
The same weekend of 8th HKBDFI Cup Ballroom Dance Championships clashed with competitions in Thailand, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan. I was a little disappointed that I was unable to invite adjudicators from these countries. Eventually adjudicator panel comprised of 3 from overseas (Russia, Thailand & Malaysia), 2 from China and 26 from Hong Kong, whilst competitors were coming from Italy, England, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, Macau, China Overall, the response was more than satisfactory when comparing to 7th HKBDFI Cup as follows:

Solo events are becoming the most important session in competitions in HK & China as the Solo entries are growing enormously. Many organizers count on the entry fees from Solo events to balance their budget, so most of them had changed the marking system so that all Solo competitors would receive prizes. HKBDI is the only DanceSport competition organizer who insists using the traditional knock-out system for Solo events. To maintain attractiveness for Solo competitors, on top of upholding the quality of the HKBDI competitions , a brand new “Junior & Juvenile All Year Round Champions Presentation Award” will be introduced in coming HKBDI Events, commencing from 27th Come Dancing Cup on 1/9/19.
I have been happy to have friends of elite Professional couples to compete in 8th HKBDFI Cup , like Anton Sboev & Patrizia Ranis (who just became British citizen) and Michael Reilly & his wife (who just opened their new studio in Guangzhou). Even more meaningful to see BDFI International Director China Michael Reilly to dance in BDFI Cup in HK!
In the evening, HKBDI was holding the prize presentations of 2018 All Year Round Champions of different categories from Basic event to Open Professional event. Open Professional Latin, Open Amateur Latin & Open Professional Standard Finals were arranged to the evening to please the guests. The three champions all performed their honour dances together Champions of Open Amateur Standard who finished their Final in the afternoon.
